Harvard Business School - Ludcke House, Institute for Strategy & Competitiveness
Boston, Massachusetts, USA
In 2001, HBS Professor, Dr. Michael Porter and his team wanted to create a venue to support their Institute for Strategy & Competitiveness. BDG was thrilled to be selected to collaborate with Dr. Porter to create the new facility within the 6,900 sq ft Ludcke House. Originally opened in 1927 to house the Faculty Club, the project required the complete removal of all interior walls, mechanical systems, and utilities back to the concrete structure. The goal was to create an office interior and meeting spaces with all the modern office conveniences, but appearing to have been from the original historic 1920’s construction.
The interior design of the headquarters for Dr. Porter’s Institute was inspired by the historic detailing and furnishings of the White House. The Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness hosts a variety of conference events for executives, Prime Ministers, and Heads of State on the main floor level, with research and administrative staff located on the upper floors.
The project included an upgrade of all major building systems. The new mechanical system components were thoughtfully integrated in the newly renovated interior space. All MEP system pathways were planned and coordinated and executed the utmost attention to detail.
