IMC Octave – Children’s Learning Center
Shanghai, China
Located west of the busy City of Shanghai, China, lies the town of Suzhou and the famous Yangcheng Lake region. The Octave Institute built a luxury Residential Complex on the shores of the Lake and the Sangha Retreat Hotel as a family resort destination. The BDG Team had first been retained to help them design their Hotel Conference Center. Later, we were delighted to be entrusted with designing the new Children’s Learning Center and the Music & Art Center within the Residential Community.
The new Children’s Learning Center accommodates (60) children and the teaching is based on the Waldorf School Method. The facility included a Nursery, Classrooms with Kitchens, Art Studio, and an outdoor play area.
On the 2nd Floor is a play net sculpture designed by the Artist, Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam. The top of the building has a Roof Garden and Farm where the children learn how to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers. During nice weather, the Roof Garden becomes a shaded outdoor classroom.
