Harvard University - 114 Western Avenue Building Renovation
Boston, Massachusetts, USA
LEED v4 CI Certified
Located on Harvard University’s new Boston-Allston Campus, this 80,000 sq. ft. building received a complete exterior and interior renovation to relocate several Harvard University departments to repurpose the facility and accommodate the Administrative Offices, and some Classroom spaces for the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS).
The BDG Design Team, including a cost estimator, provided project budgets after every design phase that were reconciled with the Owner’s CM budget. The team worked together at every level to ensure budget targets were being met including suggesting and implementing creative value management strategies. The BDG Design Team and the CM Team were able to overcome many base building infrastructure related challenges via Building Information Modeling coordination meetings. These integrated meetings allowed for a much smoother construction execution related to building infrastructure and finishes coordination.
The Design & Owner Team participated in a series of Sustainability Charrettes during the design phases of the project to set project goals and performance standards the project would like to pursue. These performance goals were monitored through every phase of design and construction to ensure proper implementation and documentation for the LEED certification process. In addition, this project set new standards for our client regarding the selection and use of healthier materials to enhance indoor air quality, occupant health, and productivity.
